The Aeolian Islands, of volcanic origin, are considered among the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean. Thanks to their history and incredible natural beauty, they represent a magical place absolutely worth seeing….
Departure is at 7:45 a.m. from the Port of Tropea.
The first stop will be about 1 1/2 hours at Stromboli, a perpetually active volcano with black sand beaches and the picturesque village of San Vincenzo. The volcano emerges from the sea with two peaks with a height of 920 mt. The crater zone consists of 3 active cones, the volcanic activity of which is predominantly explosive in character, throwing lapilli and magma fragments. The lava flows are channeled into a wide, steep basin toward the sea, called “Sciara del Fuoco.” (It is also possible to trek up the crater of Stromboli).
Then it will be the turn of Panarea, the island of VIPs. The smallest of the Aeolian islands, it has an area of only 3.4 square kilometers. Famous for its prehistoric village in the Milazzese promontory dating back to the Bronze Age. Here you can visit the small prehistoric village or go swimming at Calajunco (The two locations can be reached by cab at an extra cost).
Eventually, the approximately 2 1/2-hour stop will be at Lipari, the largest island in the Aeolian Islands. Its coastline is generally high and rocky with stacks and caves. The historic center of Lipari is dominated by the Castle set on a promontory, stupendous is the view offered to visitors. The Museo Archeologico Eoliano (Aeolian Archaeological Museum), on the acropolis in Via del Castello, is one of the most interesting of all and with its artifacts is evidence of more than 5,000 years of the island’s civilization. The historic center with its thousands of narrow streets offers the possibility of shopping and tasting typical island cuisine in one of the characteristic restaurants.
Return to the Port of Tropea is scheduled for about 19:00h.
