La Dolce Vita

Inside Palazzo Barone di Tropea, an old patrician mansion built overlooking the Tropean marina, are 7 rooms with an original style, a perfect combination of whimsical 1950s design and the comfort of modernity. The entrance is adjacent to the central Piazza Migliarese.

All around are historic buildings, craft stores and the characteristic tangle of narrow streets that open onto beautiful little squares overlooking the sea. The view is spectacular: the white sand and crystal clear sea of the islet of Madonna dell’Isola.

A stone arch, sinuous like Anita Ekberg’s embrace, introduces the evocative atmosphere of La Dolce Vita in Tropea. Past and present, entwined and suspended, permeate the rooms of the ancient Palazzo Barone, a patrician mansion built overlooking the Tropean marina.

Memories resurface, images chase each other through the stained-glass arches, on the Venetian cast floors, through the color gradients and minimal furnishings, in a swirling reference to the fabulous 1950s.

The terrace, the beating heart of Palazzo Barone, stands out on a cliff overlooking the sea and plunges guests into a setting of breathtaking beauty.

Dominated by crystal-clear Tyrrhenian waters, on which floats the tufa rock promontory that supports the Benedictine sanctuary of the Church of St. Mary of the Island, dating back to 370 AD.

Wicker sofas, tarped umbrellas and alabaster tables welcome breaks dedicated to relaxation, reading a book, chatting among guests. A common space where one can rest and refresh oneself, or, simply, fantasize about what was once La Dolce Vita.

Every morning a rich and tasty breakfast to be enjoyed outdoors on the terrace. Colors and flavors of Calabria in the freshly baked cakes, prepared with care every day, artisanal jams, fresh fruit from our garden, bread, cold cuts, cheeses or the traditional crushed olives.
